LAWECO get down to it

A combination of environmental, engineering and safety demands has led logistics provider Wincanton to choose specialised scissor lifts from LAWECO for double-deck trailer loading bays at two major distribution centres.

The presence of a protective methane membrane in the floor of a Stoke warehouse - operated on behalf of a major high street retailer - situated on a former landfill site required the design and installation of innovative, surface-mounted 5,000kg capacity lifts. With a closed height of only 150mm these required no civil engineering works to install, reducing costs and offering the possibility of simple future relocation. Another special design feature is the ability to level two of the machines and delivery vehicles across a yard gradient keeping everything level and safe for operators, and again eliminating the need for civil works.

As part of a package of loading bay equipment supplied at the NDC it runs near Tamworth, for a major DIY chain, Wincanton has also installed a special LAWECO scissor lift in a dedicated warehouse built for the storage of flammable goods. Areas used to store paints, aerosols, solvents and gases must comply with DSEAR 2002 and because of the risk from 'flammable gases, mists or vapours' require certification to ATEX Zone 2 standard. The lift and all ancillary equipment exceeded these requirements and both installations provided Wincanton with Work at Height compliance.
