Hi-Store assist expansion at James Donaldson Timber

Against stiff competition, Hi-Store, the Hampshire based storage specialist was pleased to be selected to assist James Donaldson Timber with an exciting expansion programme at their sawmilling, manufacturing and distribution centre in Leven, Fife, Scotland.

One of the largest importers and distributors of timber in Scotland, James Donaldson Timber handles over 230,000m3 of quality timber per annum, from suppliers with impeccable "green" credentials. James Donaldson's state-of- the-art monitoring processes allow full traceability and an in-house quality system is in place to guarantee standards of service and quality of goods to its customers.

As part of James Donaldson Timber's commitment to continual improvement, it embarked on a development programme to expand their storage and distribution centres. James Donaldson therefore looked to Hi-Store's design team to provide a cost effective and high quality covered storage area to store their stocks of complete and broken bulk packs.

The solution provided by Hi-Store was a Canti-Clad™ cantilever rack supported shed. This system, based on Canti-Lock™ heavy duty cantilever racking, with its infinitely adjustable rack arms and high load-bearing capacity, benefits from not needing holes or cumbersome pegs to support the arms and can be tailored to suit individual customers' specific needs.

The 46M x 42M Canti-Clad™ structure gives James Donaldson an extra 1,932M2 of storage space. This type of installation is an alternative to a standard building and its roof covering provides complete weather protection for James Donaldson's finest quality timber. In addition, the advantage of choosing Canti-clad™ is that the total cost is the same as that of the shed, so effectively James Donaldson got their racking free of charge.

Hi-Store is the first company in the UK to work with a Chinese partner to produce such a structure. By sourcing both the main structure and racking with such an established low-cost producer, Hi-Store was able to supply the whole contract fully galvanised at less cost than a painted UK produced alternative. As a result, James Donaldson Timber chose to spend the same money and have an even larger building.
