English Provender wins top marks from BRC
The English Provender Company has been awarded the highest possible certification after an audit by the British Retail Consortium.
The company's 90,000 sq ft factory in Newbury, Berkshire, achieved Grade A status after the rigorous inspection of its production, warehousing and HACCP areas.
Said Carl Steckerl, Head of Technical: "Everyone has been working hard towards this gold standard for the past 12 months, since the integration of our foodservice arm, Suffolk Foods, into The English Provender Company.
"It is a magnificent achievement for the site and it is a reflection of all the hard work and investment that has gone on previously. English Provender is now extremely well placed to build on its position as a leading supplier of bulk mayonnaise and ambient stable grocery products."
BRC inspectors commented on English Provender Company's "simple, clever but effective systems," and praised the cleaning systems. Staff, selected at random to explain their roles to the auditors, were told: "You certainly have something to be proud of."
The state-of-the-art production facility turns out 500,000 products a week, using 200 different recipes for the retail sector alone.
