At this month’s UKWA Awards Ceremony, accolades will be given out to both third party logistics providers and warehouse equipment suppliers.

The United Kingdom Warehousing Association’s Annual Awards for Warehousing Luncheon 2010 take place at the Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, London on Wednesday July 7th, and are one of the most enjoyable events in the logistics and materials handling industry’s calendar. The main sponsor of this year’s Awards is Jungheinrich UK Ltd, and Warehouse & Logistics News is proud to be the event’s official media partner.
The UKWA Awards for Warehousing attract entries from some of the most influential companies in the logistics and materials handling industry. There are eight categories of Awards open to UKWA members and suppliers to the 3PL. In addition, a further award – the Chairman’s Award – is also presented. The Awards Categories include Best New Member, showing the highest professional standards of warehousing, the Environment Award, for the most significant and successful application of ‘green’ processes, procedures or monitoring, and the Technology & Innovation Award. Details of the finalists for each category are reproduced in this issue, on pages 12-13. We’ll bring you a full report on the winners in a future WLN.
Also in this issue we’ve got scheduled features on Doors & Curtains and Order Picking. If you’re looking for evidence of recovery and new life in the UK economy, the industrial door and loading bay equipment market has picked up in recent months.
Quoted in the feature, Alan Jenkins, Commercial Director at Hörmann UK Ltd certainly thinks so. He says industrial, tender levels have improved, resulting in increased orders. He says even one of the larger commercial property developers was talking about producing ‘spec’ build sheds again soon.
Also quoted in the feature is Alan Hirst, the Sales Director at Union Industries. He says business at Union has increased month on month over the last six months. Union have received orders for several multiple-door projects over the last few months, including Co-op Retail Logistics for their new DC in Scotland, Henderson Group in Belfast. They have also had several orders for multiple doors for various Tesco Distribution Centres around the UK and expect business to continue to increase over the coming months.
