Mike Norwood started his Apprenticeship at Yearsley Logistics in 2017 after completing his Level 3 Diploma in Management. He is a credible example of how Apprenticeships aren’t just for those at the beginning of their career, but how they can also be an invaluable asset for those wishing to progress within their current job role.

Mike had been working within Yearsley Logistics for a decade when he was given the opportunity to undertake the Apprenticeship with leading training provider Qube Learning. Since starting in 2007, Mike progressed from working on the shop floor to a Pick Control Manager making him the perfect candidate for the qualification. It allowed Mike to build on his existing knowledge and increase his understanding of the management role.

He showed incredible passion and motivation during his studies, managing a large team of people whilst completing all coursework around his day to day job. Through his own determination and with the support of his colleagues, and the team at Qube, he successfully completed the Apprenticeship in 14 months.

Mike strongly believes that the Apprenticeship allowed him to develop and evolve within his position. It gave him the tools he needed to successfully introduce and implement new systems that in turn increased productivity within the department.

Mikes long term goal is to progress into a further management role, an ambition which his Apprenticeship has put him on track to achieve. Commenting on his work, Mike said: “I’m delighted that I was given the chance to undertake an Apprenticeship, I learnt a lot during my studies and it was interesting to see how it provides you with practical skills that you can put into practice straight away. I have no doubt that this will help me in the future and I look forward to seeing the opportunities that this may bring.”

As well as his role at Yearsley Logistics, Mike is also a keen fundraiser and last year completed 10,000 steps a day for a whole month for Cancer Research. This year he also plans to take on the London Bridge challenge supported by his colleagues and friends.
