Hundreds of workers, managers and supervisors throughout the UK showed their commitment to fork lift truck safety by taking part in the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) Safety Challenge during National Fork Truck Safety Week.

Safety-Week

With at least one worker hospitalised every day in an avoidable fork lift truck accident, the FLTA is delighted by the “overwhelming” demonstration of fork lift truck safety awareness by all levels: from shelf-stackers to CEOs.

Developed in partnership with Mentor Training, the online quiz challenge put nearly 1,000 operators, pedestrians, managers and supervisors through their paces to confirm their understanding of the key issues affecting fork lift truck safety.

Some companies asked all of their employees to take the challenge, so they could benchmark safety awareness in their organisations.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural safety challenge, the FLTA raised the bar for participants this year: awarding certificates to individuals achieving scores more than 85%.

FLTA Chief Executive, Peter Harvey MBE, said: “We were overwhelmed by the tremendous number of people who have taken part and demonstrated their commitment to fork lift truck safety.

“More than that, we are especially impressed with the levels of competency they have demonstrated – particularly by operators and those who work alongside them.

“We are still collating results, but it is quite clear that the majority have a good understanding of the basics of fork lift safety. In fact, a significant number have achieved perfect scores.”

Quiz results will be used to help the Fork Lift Truck Association identify any gaps in safety knowledge, ensuring future safety events and resources can be tailored to meet the needs of employers.
