Forklift trucks aren’t often seen in palatial surroundings, but four Cat® machines from Impact Handling performed their debut duties at Buckingham Palace for the Coronation Festival, marking the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

The brand new 2.5-tonne diesel Cat lift trucks were hired by events company Global Experience Specialists (GES) specifically for the set-up and de-rigging of the prestigious event, which was attended by Her Majesty The Queen, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, and other members of the Royal Family alongside more than 60,000 visitors.

The DP25N Cat lift trucks were delivered a week before the Festival and used to erect exhibition stands and unload deliveries.

GES’ Technical Manager Steve Mott said he chose to work with Impact Handling for a combination of its flexibility in delivery and collection and the high quality and reliability of its Cat forklifts. He had experienced previous success working with the team at an event at Sandown Park racecourse in March.

He said: “As one of the world’s leading event firms, we need suppliers we can rely on to provide quality products and service. Impact Handling was the standout choice.”

John Davies, Group Operations Manager at Impact Handling, said: “We were pleased to be involved behind the scenes at such a significant occasion and whilst the delivery address may be somewhat unusual, we endeavour to handle all customer requirements with the same care, diligence and professionalism.”

GES supplied more than 1,000m2 of premium quality shell scheme with freshly built panels for the exhibition, as well as floor coverings for all of the marquees. This involved co-ordinating the movement of more than 50 trailers delivering equipment to the event and planning an extensive track way system for forklift access to the Festival space.

The DP25N Cat lift trucks supplied by Impact Handling feature powerful diesel engines optimised to reduce emissions and fuel consumption, as well as PowerShift transmissions for easy operation and service.

After set-up, the forklift trucks were collected by Impact Handling’s hire team and then returned to Buckingham Palace eight days later for the de-rigging.
