FrontSpeaking of achievements, congratulations must go to Hilary Devey, founder and CEO of Pall-Ex. Hilary has received many accolades during her outstanding career, to which she has now added the CBE in the 2013 Birthday Honours List for services to the transport industry and charity. Well done indeed.

July is traditionally a busy time for the UK’s warehousing and logistics professionals. On Wednesday 3rd July a 400-strong crowd of United Kingdom Warehousing Association members and their guests gathers at the 2013 UKWA Awards for Warehousing Ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel in London.  Warehouse & Logistics News is proud to be the Awards’ official media partner, once again. Don’t miss our exclusive Awards Preview in this issue, published in conjunction with UKWA.

And to keep us on our toes, a week after the UKWA’s, on Wednesday 10th July Warehouse & Logistics News are supporting and playing in the Fork Lift Truck Association’s annual Golf Day at the Kenilworth Golf Club in Warwickshire. Here’s to good weather, and a great day’s play.

Also in this issue we have scheduled features on Warehouse Lighting and Order Picking. Warehouse Lighting looks at smart lighting solutions for today’s warehouses, LED, energy-efficient, long-life and sensor-activated systems. and Order Picking covers pickers, pick to light and voice picking.

As our Preview makes clear, the UKWA Awards for Warehousing celebrate excellence in the UK third party logistics industry. This year the competition attracted an overwhelming number of entries from some of the most influential companies in logistics and materials handling, from which the UKWA Awards Committee has selected finalists in nine categories. You can find details in these pages. The overall winners will be announced and presented with their awards at the Dorchester, together with a further prize, the Chairman’s Award, and profiles of the winners will appear in a future issue of Warehouse & Logistics News.

After the UKWA Awards we’ll be first with details of the winners on our website www.warehousenews.co.uk, now averaging around 3,200 unique visitors per day. To find out who lifted the trophies at the Dorchester, you know where to look. And if you’re going to either the UKWA’s or the FLTA Golf Day, we’ll see you there! Have a great month.
