Meachers-and-VenturaMeachers Global Logistics, one of the UK’s leading independent providers of logistics services, has announced the renewal and extension of a long-term supply chain management contract with global cruise operator Carnival UK following a competitive tender process.

From October 2012, it will be extending its fourteen-year relationship with Carnival UK whose brands include Cunard, Princess, Seabourn and P&O Cruises and increasing the services provided to incorporate the consolidation of the food and beverage supplies and receipting of all products onto the company’s supply chain management system.

Meachers Global Logistics will continue to manage the cruise ship supply chain on behalf of Carnival UK’s fleet, which involves inventory control, warehousing, consolidation, pick and pack, back office support and the containerisation and export of product to meet the ships requirements worldwide.

Meachers Global Logistics provides replenishment of goods to the cruise ships at the dockside, both at their homeport of Southampton and to all major ports throughout the world.

Freight is delivered to meet critical deadlines and is transported by the timeliest methods available including road, air and sea freight. Goods can range from ship’s propellers and turbines through to luxury carpets, industrial washing machines, dining tables and chairs.

The new contract will see Meachers Global Logistics extend its inventory control to include several thousand new products, which will require it to increase its dedicated warehousing space in Southampton to over 50,000 square feet to accommodate the cruise lines’ requirements.

The company has recruited a further seven staff as a result of the agreement, taking the team responsible for the Carnival UK brands to 18 employees. New appointments include operations, administration and supervisory roles.

Stuart Terris, Meachers Global Logistics, Managing Director said: “We are delighted to be extending our relationship with Carnival UK. The partnership has meant the recruitment of new staff and we have created a new web based delivery portal, which will make the process of managing the diverse range of the cruise lines’ suppliers more robust, efficient and secure. We have also introduced a new bar coding facility to enhance stock control and improve how we track and trace goods.  We are really excited about working more closely with some of the UK’s favourite cruise lines and the world’s largest cruise operator.”
