As a truly global door-to-door express parcel delivery service, Australian air Express (AaE) delivers across Australia and to more than 200 countries worldwide. With businesses becoming increasingly reliant on air logistics to meet their time-critical logistics needs, AaE has continued its high level of service in the express freight market.

In 2008 AaE invested in two sorting systems based on Crisplant’s high-capacity, cross-belt, loop sortation system, integrating a range of in-feed stations to allow simultaneously handling of a wide range of items such as cartons, bags, tubs and satchels. The state-of-the-art sorting systems were installed by Crisplant into new-build facilities in Melbourne and Sydney as part of AaE’s major ‘Building our Future’ investment programme.

Both systems are equipped with an advanced, high-level control system, based on Crisplant’s field-proven Software Suite™ modules, including a Colour Graphics System (CGS), to give AaE staff an overview of the entire system for easy diagnostics and a fast response to system alarms.

Wayne Dunne, CEO of AaE commented: “These are the first automated systems for AaE and were installed to enable us to significantly increase our operating efficiency as well as work satisfaction for our staff.”

Further to the success, AaE won major awards within months of the systems becoming fully operational. The systems won in the national Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence Awards 2008 for ‘combining world-leading auto sortation technologies together with innovative integrated information systems and properly aligned human interfaces.’ AaE also received the Australian Freight & Logistics Award from the Australian Freight Industry (AFI).

“To have these systems recognised by our industry peers as outstanding examples of innovation in material-handling efficiency is a major achievement,” enthused Wayne Dunne upon receiving the awards.
